The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is offering a post-doctoral position in the field of Weather Extremes and Climate Modelling. The position is funded for 3 years and involves research on fire risk and atmospheric drivers of fire weather in the Mediterranean region. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with experts from different disciplines and geographical regions to improve the predictability of impact-relevant extremes in the Mediterranean using state-of-the-art methods. The position requires a PhD degree in physics, mathematics/statistics, climate science, or a related discipline, as well as a solid background in climate and atmospheric sciences. Knowledge of machine learning and coding experience with Python/Matlab/R are advantageous. The candidate will be supervised by Dr. Giorgia Di Capua and Dr. Kirsten Thonicke and will collaborate with other researchers from various institutions. The position offers the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary team in an internationally recognized research institute on Potsdam's Telegrafenberg campus.
