About WGH and context: Women in Global Health (WGH) is a global movement with the largest network of women and allies working to challenge power and privilege for gender equity in health. WGH, launched in 2015 and registered as a US 501(c)(3) in 2017, has grown to include over 70,000 supporters in 90 countries and has 41 official chapters, with a strong presence in low- and middle-income countries. The virtual global team and its network of chapters drive change by mobilizing a diverse group of emerging women health leaders, advocating for governments and global health leaders to meet commitments made, and by holding those leaders to account.

WGH works in partnership with global health and gender equality agencies and organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), Gavi, Global Fund, and UN Women, and has been featured in CNN, NPR, EuroNews, the Lancet, and Devex for its work and maintains a robust presence via in-person and virtual events at major global health and international development forums, such as the World Health Assembly, High-Level Political Forum, and UN General Assembly. WGH is unique in its approach, connecting global and national policy-making to local reality and providing a platform for underrepresented women to be heard. In 2022 WGH was given special relations status with WHO.

About the role: Are you passionate about global health, gender equity, and challenging power structures in the interests of better health for all? We need YOU to join our global movement run by a small core team of paid staff supported by inspirational volunteers. We are still a startup in many respects, yet we have achieved impact on a global scale and now have sector-wide name recognition. Women in Global Health (WGH) has catalyzed a global network of 41 national and regional chapters enabling women from around the world to engage at all levels in decision-making, particularly women from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We are looking for a freelance, part-time graphic designer to join our Communications team who wants to contribute to WGH’s mission.

Job Location:

Fully Remote

Anticipated Salary and Timeframe:

• Approximately 1,000 - 1,800 USD per month (adjustments made based on experience, geography, and cost of living)
• Timeframe: 1 year, renewable, 90-day trial period
• Desired start: ASAP, preferably before the end of September to facilitate transition
• Expected time commitment: Average of 20-30 hours per month; Time commitment will fluctuate with organizational workload / engagement

Contract

All members of the WGH Team are contracted on a consultancy basis. This is a 12-month, part-time consulting contract with the potential for renewal based on performance and funds available.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow company brand guidelines
• Work on multiple projects based on the Communications team’s current visual needs
• Generate a variety of design ideas/drafts to propose to the team
• Create professional designs based on team’s choice
• Amend designs after feedback
• Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand
• Work on a range pf projects from designing and formatting reports to creative social media graphics

What we are looking for:

• Must have at least 2 years’ experience in professional graphic design
• A high level of proficiency using Adobe products like InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
• Proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Word, PPT, etc.)
• Experience with Canva
• Great communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain design decisions
• A portfolio that showcases aesthetic awareness and design problem solving abilities
• An ability to work with/create illustrations is a plus
• Ability to turn around work rapidly and with little lead time

Languages:

Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills is essential
