Material Scientist/ Membrane Engineer

MISSION

Lead the process engineering team to create/model for a 20,000 litre unit of a membrane based Direct Air Capture (DAC) approach

RESPONSIBILITIES

Process design

• Take responsibility for the process design of Direct Air Capture process combining membrane reactors and enzymes
• Calculating thermodynamic processes, heat, process / fluid flow and mass balances to create techno economic analysis based on data from our 200 ml prototype
• Conduct process design calculations, equipment sizing and/or numerical simulations to obtain relevant design parameters of the subsystems like vessel volumes, valve characteristics, necessary insulation, maximum flow velocities etc.
• Design a CAD model of a 20,000 liter unit to showcase our vision
• Suggest materials of the reactor, organize procurement and negotiate with suppliers

Leadership

• Leading the technical development of process narratives, block flow diagrams (BFDs), process flow diagrams (PFDs) and P&IDs

• Work independently on a variety of projects from simple to complex, small to large
• Highly self-directed and able to work independently, as well as the proven ability to work as a member of a cross functional teams

REQUIREMENTS

Skills and experience

• Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Chemical-, Bio- or Process-Engineering (Related PhD a plus)
• 3+ years of hand’s on experience in process design or Direct Air Capture
• Profound knowledge in process engineering, separation operations and both continuous and batch processes
• Experience in design, construction and/or operation of mini/pilot plants for R&D and/or industrial plants in the oil & gas and energy sector, e.g. gas processing and liquefaction plants, air separation units, Direct Air Capture etc.
• Experience with tools for process simulation, ideally also with dynamic or discrete-time modeling
• Hands-on experience with respect to piping, tubing, couplings and threaded connections

Lab Technician [open] Manage the lab and support our molecular biologist and membrane expert

MISSION

Set the base for a running lab for 4 -6 people (no S1) at a startup at Campus Buch

OUTCOME

• Take care of administrative and security related tasks in the laboratory
• Ensuring a smoothly running lab facility to develop our product
• Order consumables and negotiate prices with suppliers
• Support wit equipment procurement and handling
• Execute experiments with established protocols

RESPONSIBILITIES

Laboratory work

• Execute enzyme activity assays, also in micro-fluidics
• Set up a reliable wet-lab documenting process to enable fast and interdisciplinary iterations on experiments
• Take responsibility for data acquisition and storage incl visualization
• Take ownership of the overall laboratory procurement and supplier network, incl. negotiating the best prices
• Work in an interdisciplinary team to integrate insights from the molecular level into the overall process design and hardware

Venture Building Intern [open] Work directly with the CEO to accelerate the company overall

MISSION

Work directly with our CEO Florian on fundraising, hiring and marketing to accelerate the company overall, while learning how to build a climate tech company

RESPONSIBILITIES

Venture building

• Support the CEO directly in developing a strategic investor action plan
• Lead applications for additional funding by writing business plans and proposals
• Support the CEO on the monthly investor reporting and financial planning
• Build partnerships that help the company to position itself stronger in the climate tech and biotech space
• Manage our marketing efforts on LinkedIn to position Ucaneo as a leading DAC company
• Support the CEO on building a strong company culture
• Identify and manage new hiring targets to further build up a strong hiring funnel

• Leading new initiatives within the company, which accelerates Ucaneo overall

REQUIREMENTS

Skills and experience

• Student at a top university in business administration or similar fields
• Previous internships in consulting or start-ups is a plus
• Photoshop or previous marketing expertise is a plus
• Excel and powerpoint (Google Workspace) is required
