The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 1000 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

As towns, cities and countries around the world declare climate emergencies, seas rise, forests burn, glaciers melt, increasing numbers of people take to the streets demanding urgent action and our societies begin to wake up to what the science has been saying for many years, there has never been a more important time to be working on climate change.

ECF’s Strategic Communications team is looking for a talented Operations Associate to provide operational support to its digital communications unit, a fast-growing and fun international team that uses digital communications to drive the low-carbon transition.

The successful candidate will report to the Digital Manager, work extremely closely with ECF’s wider operations team, and be responsible for making sure the digital team’s logistical, administration and internal comms processes run smoothly - an exciting opportunity for anyone with a strong affinity for organising and problem solving.

As Operations Associate, Digital Strategic Communications, you would be responsible for:

    • Acting as the primary contact person for digital unit members and external partners on day-to-day operational questions and communicating operational processes.

    • Acting as the primary liaison point between the digital unit and the ECF operations team colleagues to ensure that the digital unit is correctly complying with ECF processes, and to help optimise processes to meet the needs of the digital unit.

    • Managing team credit cards, adding them to accounts and uploading invoices to the internal invoice tracking system.

    • Supporting specific other digital teams outside the central digital unit with their budgeting, administrative and logistical processes.

    • Assisting with service/grant agreement preparation and ensuring that invoices from third-party service providers are paid on time.

    • Supporting procurement processes including reviewing and analyzing offers and contracts, communications with external suppliers and maintaining updated records.

    • Working with the Digital Manager to optimise internal communications and operational processes (e.g. Monday.com, Google Drive folder systems), communicate these processes to colleagues clearly, and make sure important process-related documents are up to date.

    • Handling event management for virtual and/or international in-person meetings such as retreats including logistics, internal and external communication, supplier management, etc.

    • Supporting other operations tasks related to the coordination of the team (e.g. setting up calls).

    • Proactively contributing to team spirit e.g. through the organisation of team-building activities.

  • A genuine interest in the mission and values of ECF, and a commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.

  • Professional experience in a relevant field, such as budget management or administration.

  • Strong project management and IT skills - an experienced user of cloud-based collaboration tools (e.g. Monday.com, Google Drive), Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

  • A fast learner with a can-do attitude and a desire to find solutions to tricky problems, and who is comfortable working in a dynamic international environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, other languages a plus.

  • Ability to present complex information clearly and in a way that enables people without an administrative background to make decisions.

  • Ability to work flexibly, both independently and in a team, and the disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust community of peers.

  • Experience providing operational support to complex international teams working across multiple internal systems, national contexts and currencies.

  • The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work across phone/video conferencing, time zones, Slack, etc.

  • The unique opportunity to work as part of a highly dynamic, international team who combine their passion to make a difference with a rigorous and results-oriented approach to work.
  • A full-time position with a consultant or employment contract (subject to location) for one year, with a possible renewal after one year.
