Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD) is the German organisation for science communication of the scientific community. Initiated by the Stifterverband, Wissenschaft im Dialog was founded in 2000 by the leading German science organisations. Further science-related foundations joined as partners. WiD is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. www.wissenschaft-im-dialog.de
With the science survey Science Barometer (www.sciencebarometer.com), Wissenschaft im Dialog has regularly surveyed German public attitudes towards science and research in population-representative surveys since 2014. Lately, special attention has been paid to monitoring public trust in science and research in Germany within the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Starting in autumn 2022, WiD will be working on questions of public trust on a European level within the context of the POIESIS project. The POIESIS project brings together seven partners from across Europe, who will study the impact of research integrity issues and societal engagement practices on trust in science. POIESIS’ research objective is to understand how and to what extent societal trust in science, research and innovation is affected by the alignment of research practices with principles of research integrity and by the integration of citizens and societal stakeholders in different phases of the research cycle.
The project brings together seven European partners: Aarhus University (DK), London School of Economics (UK), Wissenschaft im Dialog (GER), National Technical University of Athens (GRE), Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (POR), Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (FRA) and Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (SP). It is funded by the European Commission within the framework of Horizon Europe.
